What is Family Support?

Grays Harbor Family Support Program is a free program that helps improve the health and well-being of the people of Grays Harbor County by helping children grow and develop to reach their full potential. The program matches parents with a trained Parent Educator (PE) who comes to wherever you live or a convenient location like your local library or park. Your PE is a friendly, experienced person who can answer questions about your pregnancy or being a parent and can help you find services that help you care for yourself and your children.

Grays Harbor Family Support Program uses the Parents as Teachers (PAT) program which has been proven to help children and families. By providing services as early as pregnancy, PAT supports you and helps you set and reach goals for yourself and your child.

Parents as Teachers (PAT)

PAT helps parents learn about child development and gives parenting support. PAT helps to ensure that young children are healthy, safe, and ready to learn. The program includes one-on-one personal visits, monthly group connections, health and developmental screenings, and a resource network for families.

Why it helps

Helping your child learn and grow is a big job. It is very exciting but often hard, too. Every family can use some support.

PAT gives families that support. Your PE gives you tools and information about being pregnant and/or being a parent. Your PE is a partner who supports you as your child grows up and answers your questions.

PAT is your local connection to resources in your community, as well as a connection to other parents in the program.

Is it for me?

PAT is a great resource for those who are:

  • expecting a child
  • parents of children ages 0-3 and includes grandparents, aunts, uncles, foster parents, and other caregivers
  • in need of extra support
  • in need of support getting their child ready for school
